Malignant Mesothelioma in an Electrical Worker
Suhail N, Suraj K.P, Remeshchandra Babu KM, Ravindran C

Abstract:

Malignant Mesothelioma is the most common primary malignant tumour of the pleura. 70% cases of pleural mesothelioma are associated with asbestos exposure. Analysis of occupation recorded on death certificates indicate that building workers (Plumbers and Gas fitters), carpenters and electricians are the largest high-risk groups. Typically they present as insidious onset of nonpleuritic chest pain, dyspnoea and cough. The chest film invariably reveals a unilateral pleural effusion. A case of malignant mesothelioma in a 43-year-old male electrical wiring worker, who is a known case of polycystic kidney disease, is reported here due to its rarity.
